Young’s modulus for aluminium

Reliable impulse excitation measurements
Wide range of services
To measure Young’s modulus for aluminium or other materials, different types of test procedures are available. Typically a tensile test is being used. As an alternative to destructive tests, we provide a tool that works on the basis of the impulse excitation technique. This means that the material is tapped with a small projectile, which causes it to vibrate. These vibrations are picked up by a microphone or laser vibrometer and are accurately analysed by our RFDA or Resonant Frequency Analyser. The fundamental flexural vibration frequency is determined which is necessary to calculate the Young’s modulus value. Applying this procedures as function of temperature gives access to other thermo-mechanical properties of materials such as aluminium.
Calculate Young’s modulus for aluminium efficiently
The benefit that the RFDA or Resonance Frequency and Damping Analyser from IMCE at Genk provides is a far more efficient process than its destructive alternatives. Our measurement systems merely requires only a single sample which can be put through all the temperatures in the testing cycle. This saves on time and material. Apart from Young’s modulus, the RFDA can also characterize other elastic properties such as shear modulus, Poisson’s ratio and internal friction for aluminium, but also other materials such as ceramics or refractory materials. It is possible to obtain this mechanical spectroscopy tool for your company or organization, but you can also count on our company to perform the measurements for you.
