IMCE introduces low temperature IET analysis
IMCE announces low temperature impulse excitation measurements from room temperature down to -80 °C.
In several applications, the elastic properties and internal friction in this low temperature regime play an important role. For example, the glass transition temperature of plastics indicates the transition of a polymer from the rubbery to the glass state.
Below, the results are shown for a polyoxymethylene (POM) sample. POM has a glass transition temperature around -50 °C as clearly shown by a peak in the internal friction data. Therefore, the Young’s modulus/stiffness increases in the glass transition region during the cooling phase.
